Great mug for superior coffee Aug 20, 2010 I bought two of these mugs for a 2 week cruise. My husband roasts his own coffee beans and the thought of cruise ship coffee was depressing. We tried them out camping and on hotel stays and found them to be terrific. They are very sturdy and will probably go on every trip we take from now on. Can't think of a negative thing to say, Great product.
Great design but POOR Quality May 19, 2010 I was so excited to finally get a french press mug and generally love the design. Unfortunately the handle fell off after only 6 weeks and the mug has always leaked a bit when you first put hot water in it. I have contacted Planetary Design to see if they would replace it, but I have not heard back from them. Overall the poor quality and lack of warranty support do not make this mug worth $30! Pretty disappointing.
The best travel french press out there May 16, 2010 This mug is amazing. Very well designed, I always throw it in the dishwasher and it stands up wonderfully. My coffee stays warm and I don't have to drink the nasty coffee from the work coffee machine because I have two more cups of grounds in the base for the rest of the day.
Really a great design - also, the top of the press lid comes with an extra screen where you sip to keep any wayward grounds from getting through. Thank you Planetary Design!
Good french press, could use some design improvements May 13, 2010 I've had the mug a few weeks now, and used it a dozen times or so. The coffee is excellent and the screen and plunger system work well. The body of the mug is well built and sturdy.
I have not been as impressed with some of the design elements. The "double shot" feature is not well put together. The shot is supposed to go in a little plastic cup within the base of the unit. There is no cover for this cup, it is supposed to snap into the plastic base. The two do not attach firmly, and the coffee is usually spilled into the base by the time I need it. When I ordered it I wrongly assumed that the whole base unscrewed from the mug and held the coffee. This would solve another issue, the lower chamber fills up with water in the dishwasher which means it doesn't get rinsed well, and is a pain when unloading from the dishwasher.
The only other complaint I have is that there is a plastic tab on the top to allow easy removal of the lid. I dropped the mug at work and the tab broke off the second day I had it. I blame myself for being clumsy, but a more robust design would have helped.
I gave the mug 3 stars because it makes really good coffee, and at it's heart is a good solid stainless steel mug. A few design improvements would make it a 5 star purchase for me.
Great Idea, Fair Execution Apr 27, 2010 I love the idea of a french press to go. However, the mug began to rust the first time I washed it. Also, there is no insulation at the rim, so the stainless steel is too hot to drink from until the coffee is too cold to enjoy. I was very disappointed in this very expensive product.
